Context and compaction
Point the agent at the right files, images, and page elements, track context use, and keep long conversations going.
Context is what the agent has in view while it works: your messages, its replies, and what it has read and run so far. Each model can hold only so much at once. That limit is its context window.
Adding context
The agent searches your project for what it needs. When you already know what matters, add it yourself:
- Mentions. Type
@to mention files or folders in your project. - Images. Attach screenshots or other images when the selected model accepts them.
- Page elements. Add an element from the built-in browser, along with a screenshot of it.
Context meter
The message box shows how much of the context window the conversation is using, as a percentage. When it's nearly full, CodeNeter compacts the conversation.
Compaction
Compaction summarizes a long conversation to make room for more work. CodeNeter does this automatically when needed. You can also use /summarize before moving on to a new part of a task.
A summary can leave out details. If something from earlier still matters, mention the file again or restate the decision. Messages from before the summary can no longer be edited, and summarizing counts toward usage like any other request.
